Leve Center-ISH Postdoctoral Scholar in Antisemitism
The Post-Doctoral Fellow will be a scholar who understands antisemitism within broad historical and political contexts and is open to exploring its connection to other forms of group-based hate; preference for work centered in the United States, including research that explores contemporary antisemitism on college campuses. The Fellow will join the vibrant research communities of the UCLA Alan D. Leve Center for Jewish Studies and the Initiative to Study Hate, and will have the following responsibilities: participating in shaping and implementing ISH research undertakings, as well as in research team meetings; serving as a resource for ISH grantees, as well as Jewish studies scholars and students, across campus; mentoring undergraduate and graduate fellows; helping to conceive public programs for the Alan D. Leve Center and ISH. The Fellow will be expected to work at least two days a week on campus and check in with mentors on a regular basis.

We are seeking to interview candidates with a demonstrable commitment to the success and mentorship of students from underrepresented and underserved populations and with an enthusiasm for building ties across fields within the university. The appointment (which includes benefits) will be for a 24-month period. Salary will follow university standards for post-doctoral scholars and will reflect the applicant’s experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. applicants should have less than 5 years of cumulative postdoc service but no more than 10 years since obtaining their Ph.D
- Research specialization in Antisemitism and/or relevant field
- Commitment to cross-disciplinary and collaborative research
- Proven track record in designing and completing research assignments
- Ability to translate research findings into public-facing formats

The UCLA Alan D. Leve Center for Jewish Studies and the UCLA Initiative to Study Hate (ISH), with the support of the Anthony and Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation, is pleased to announce a call for applications to support a new joint project to study antisemitism. We encourage projects that explore the concerning rise in antisemitism in this country and the world—and that situate antisemitism in the larger eco-system of hate that the host units are dedicated to studying. We invite research proposals from within the UCLA community from a wide range of disciplines that engage with the past or present of antisemitism. UCLA faculty, research staff, and students (graduate and undergraduate) are welcome to apply, and collaborative projects are especially encouraged.
Successful grantees will take part in a new UCLA Hub on Antisemitism, a research collective that bridges the vibrant communities of the Leve Center for Jewish Studies and ISH, and will be expected to participate in shaping and implementing the Hub’s future research undertakings; serve as a resource for other grantees, the hosting units, and UCLA as a whole; and provide mentorship to undergraduate and graduate fellows where appropriate.

Graduate Student Researcher in partnership with California Commission on the State of Hate
The UCLA Initiative to Study Hate is pleased to announce a new call for applications for a Graduate Student Researcher to support its continuing research partnership with the California Commission on the State of Hate (read more about the Commission below). This GSR will have the opportunity to work directly with Commission members and staffers, providing essential research that will support the Commission in its advisory capacity for policymakers.
This researcher will work with ISH and the Commission for 10 weeks at approx. 4-6 hours/week (10-15% FTE) to conduct a literature review. The literature review would focus on one of the following subjects:
- A review of existing evidence-based mental health approaches to supporting victims of hate crimes and incidents. This could include policies, programs, evidence-based clinical practices, etc.
- A review of existing bystander intervention trainings designed to train the public on what to do when they witness hate, including a synthesis of their content and approaches and a framework for conceptualizing these trainings.
ISH is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in education, psychology, social work, sociology, or other relevant fields. Experience in quantitative research methods is required, and experience in both quantitative and qualitative methods is preferred. Prior experience with client-facing research or work experience is preferred.

The Commission on the State of Hate was established to strengthen California’s efforts to stop hate and promote mutual respect among California’s diverse population. The Commission is charged with the following duties:
- Publish a rigorous, comprehensive accounting of hate activity in California
- Engage in fact finding and research on hate activity
- Host community forums on the state of hate
- Provide resources and guidance to communities and government officials on how to effectively reduce and respond to hate activity

We encourage projects that explore the alarming rise of Islamophobia in this country and the world—and that situate Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hate crimes within a larger ecosystem of hate. We invite research proposals from within the UCLA community from a wide range of disciplines that engage with the past or present of Islamophobia. UCLA faculty, research staff, and students (graduate and undergraduate) are welcome to apply, and collaborative projects are especially encouraged.
Successful grantees will participate in the initiative’s monthly seminars and regular convenings with intra- and extra-mural partners; serve as a resource on Islamophobia for other grantees, the hosting units, and UCLA as a whole; interact and exchange ideas with ISH researchers; and provide mentorship to undergraduate and graduate fellows where appropriate.
